The project’s goal is to get more cities to implement Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) by providing mechanisms and tools for national and regional agencies to lead the development of SUMPs in participating countries. The project builds professional capacity in cities through peer-to-peer exchange programmes and training on SUMPs and related innovative approaches to sustainable urban mobility.

It is cities that develop and implement SUMPs, but experience in countries like Belgium, Slovenia or Spain shows that regional or national government support really encourages them to do so. But in many countries there is a still a gap between national and local government on SUMP – a gap that CIVITAS PROSPERITY aims to close.

The project will do so by bringing together these levels of government through regular peer-to-peer exchange, through national task forces, and through regular chances for the national level to interact with the cities of the country as they develop their SUMPs. By enhancing cooperation between several states of the European Union, CIVITAS PROSPERITY is able to reduce barriers to more energy-efficient and integrated urban mobility, something that would be impossible within one country alone.

Training and Support

Take advantage of a valuable package of SUMP development training and support for local authorities. This includes webinars, blogs, training material, training activities, and many more. See the training & Learning section on our page.

Exchange of Experience Workshops

Personal face-to-face contact is an essential part of the network and thus we provide an array of national and international workshops to exchange experiences.

European SUMP Conferences

The annual European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans brings together a Europe-wide community of practitioners, policy makers, city staff and academics to debate key issues, highlight developments in mobility planning and exchange ideas and experience.

The fourth European Conference on SUMPs took place on 29 - 30 March 2017 in Dubrovnik (Croatia).
The third European Conference on SUMPs took place on 12 - 13 April 2016 in Bremen (Germany).
The second European Conference on SUMPs took place on 16-17 June 2015 in Bucharest (Romania).
The first European Conference on SUMPs took place on 12-14 June 2014 in Sopot (Poland).

Innovative Product Development

The projects will develop innovative products to help cities develop highquality SUMPs. This includes the development or improvement of national level programmes on SUMPs, publishing practical guidance, gathering and updating state-of-the-art tools and many more.

Further resources

Furthermore, within CIVITAS PROSPERITY, a number of reports and other strategies are produced to provide results of the process to all interested parties. As a matter of transparency, CIVITAS PROSPERITY makes them public and free for download and access:
